Prosopographic materials in the Ivan Krypiakevych collection of the Ma­nuscript Department of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv

The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv once again confirmed the objectivity of the interdisciplinary association of professional scientists, teachers, lawyers, priests, cooperators, and financiers – all those who cared about the fate of Ukraine, its science, education, and culture, especially in the era of foreign enslavement. In this regard, the author set out to highlight the activities of the famous scientist and public figure Ivan Petrovych Krypiakevych through the prism of various documents and materials from the scientist’s personal collection, which has been stored and compiled in the Manuscript Department of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scien­tific Library of Ukraine in Lviv since 2007 [F. 314 (Krypiakevych Ivan Petrovych)]. The materials of this archive and other documentary collections reveal the scientific and organisational work of the scientist in the historical and philosophical section of the Society and its various commissions. There are materials about the difficult relations between the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv and the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, in particular its histori­cal section and archaeological commission, which were headed by Mykhajlo Hrushevskyi. Of considerable value is the “Dictionary of My Acquaintances”, in which I. Krypiakevych described the scientific, social and political activities of fifty people, many of whom were directly or indirectly involved in the work of the Society. The article proves once again that in the conditions of statelessness, the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv as a whole and its in­dividual members tried to objectively research national history, support its culture and education, and promote the Ukrainian national idea in the world.
